A custom area rug is a soft cut-pile face — polyester or nylon, roughly a quarter inch high — printed with a high-definition dye process and finished over a felt or latex action backing. Because the design is printed rather than woven, photographic gradients, watercolor textures and fine logo detail all reproduce cleanly instead of turning into stair-stepped blocks. The edges are serged or bound in matching tape, so nothing frays once furniture starts sliding across it.
