Nylon vs. polyester custom rugs

Two fibers, two strengths — a straight side-by-side from the people who print both.

The short answer

Choose nylon for high-traffic entrances, vestibules and corridors, where the pile has to keep standing up. Choose polyester for printed rugs where crisp color and photographic detail matter most and traffic is lighter. Get Custom Rugs offers both, and the design team will spec the fiber to where your rug will sit.

Where nylon wins

Nylon has the best resilience of the fibers used for commercial rugs, so the pile stands back up after foot traffic instead of packing into a grey path. That is why logo entrance mats use a dense nylon pile on a cleated rubber backing, and why custom runner rugs for busy corridors are offered in nylon. Solution-dyed nylon also holds its color through years of commercial cleaning.

Where polyester earns its place

Polyester takes high-definition dye sublimation beautifully, so photographs, watercolor textures and fine logo detail come through cleanly, which makes it a natural face for custom area rugs and a low-profile pile for printed event rugs. It is a strong choice for showrooms, offices and booth floors where looks matter and traffic is moderate.

The verdict

Pick nylon for doorways, lobbies and corridors that see steady foot traffic.

Pick polyester for detailed, full-color artwork in rooms and booths with lighter wear.
